Dave argues that activism is an ethical practice comprising critique, invention, and relational practice. She investigates the relationship between the ethics of activism and the existing social norms and conditions from which activism emerges. Naisargi Dave - Life is Queerer Than a Chessboard: On Cows, Violence, and Love in Contemporary India

From the various communities in which Dave existed to the critiquing of activism, this book does a great job at giving an in-depth look at some of the most effective activists and activist groups in Indian contemporary history. Dave analyzes the various types of activism at play in India from hosting call centers, marching, protesting, and simply existing--and even goes on to analyze how different groups interact and feel about each other.

Queer Activism in India: A Story in the Anthropology of Ethics | BLUESTOCKINGS

Some groups find There's a lot at play in this book. Some groups find that it's inherently important to focus on lesbians, while other activist groups find that it's more important to aid all Indian women's survival first before attempting to advocate for various sexualities. My only qualm about this book is the use of "queer" in the title--my own personal feelings aside, I rarely notice the word "queer" being used in the book, and it seemed to me that there was a heavy preference to wards the anglicism of "lesbian.

Overall though, this was an incredible book chock-full of information and resources, and I just loved being able to learn about LGBT history from elsewhere in the world!
